Who Are Willock, McTominay, Mitchell, Tuanzebe & Olosunde? | Manchester United Youth Academy Review

Jose has taken McTominay, Willock, Tuanzebe, Olosunde & Mitchell to London tonight for the Arsenal game. In a mirror of last season’s home game where we saw Rashford repeat his Midtjylland heroics with his first Premier League goals and also Fosu Mensah look immense.

So I thought I’d tell you a little bit about these lads and how I rate them and what their style of play is.

Scott McTominay, he’s a central midfielder. Technically sound. Without being spectacular has played most of this season as the number 9 either as a target man or a false 9 and as you’d expect a midfielder deployed up front he’s not found the net too often.

Matty Willock, I do like Matty. He was also tried out up front a few times and didn’t like it, at all. However, those games he played up front have forced his development. Last season he was sound if a little bit safe in how he played. But playing up front has forced him to take more risks and has really round out his game. Great defensively, a threat from range. I’d be very happy to see him get the nod tomorrow.

Tuanzebe. Class and composure personified. This kid was born to defend. Excellent with the ball at his feet, absolutely rapid and will get in the way of anything. He’s destined for greatness. I’ve seen people online claiming he’s ‘shit’ in the air after someone stated IF HE HAS A WEAKNESS it’s in the air. But it isn’t noticeable, to be honest. I’ve tried to watch for it and I don’t see it. I hope he gets a chance – he’s going to shock people how good he is.

Olosunde. Unfortunately – I’m not sure how Matt has ended up getting the nod to the first team. I’ve seen him have maybe one good game for the academy. I just don’t think he offers enough or is of the required standard to be at United. When you think United chose him over Tyler Reid – it makes no sense at all.

Demetri Mitchell – Deme was playing upfront/second striker, occasionally on the left of the 3. But he was converted to a LB earlier this season and has been a revelation. Still has a lot to learn defensively but going forward he’s reminiscent of an early Evra or Marcelo. Breathtaking.

That’s what them lads offer. I was gonna talk about the POTY nominees, but I’ll save that until next week. Where I’ll also be able to do a round up of the season and where everything is at with both the 18s/23s and how the U16s coming into next season are looking.
